Hailing from Charlotte, North Carolina, The Alternative Champs have been playing their unorthodox brand of wrong-headed
yet undeniably catchy, anything goes music since 1989. With eleven albums and two perfumes under their belt it's amazing they
have only lately begun to receive the popularity they deserve. On albums with titles like Creamy Nougat and Dolphin Crazy,
expect to hear R&B songs about swimming pools, Beach music about grilling steaks, and Gospel tunes about floods and ice
cream parties. They even have an ode in honor of the penis. Youll catch yourself loving songs you shouldnt, singing along
to songs you thought you couldnt. For The Champs have a knack for pulling off songs others wouldnt dare write. Part performance
art, stand up comedy, satirical theatre, and gigantic stadium rock band, The Alt Champs could care less about posing and posturing.
They turn a cold shoulder towards playing into the flavor-of-the-day idea of what makes a cool rock band.! They are
cool because they dont try. When you have the skills they possess in regards to putting out truly bizarre entertainment, why
bother? Comprised of members Mike Mitschele (guitar, vocals, synths), Brent Dunn (bass, piccolo), Dave Massi (drums, ham-boner),
and Rick Randall (guitar, vocals, sampler), this four piece knows how to unleash everything from gnarly noise to subtle ballads,
Country-Western to Reggae. Although they spawn from such critically acclaimed, regional faves as Jolene, Rebar, and The Husbians,
these guys are as unique to their past endeavors as they are to the rest of the music world. Whatever the mood, you can rest
assured that a night out with The Alternative Champs will be one hell of an experience. To this day, I find myself cracking
up at work just remembering some of their high jinx from past shows. I love those crazy freaks!
