"You talkin' 'bout my Mama??" Indeed, they are. Not only that, but they're also talking about her
big, fat booty. These two subjects, taboo in most circles, find themselves comfortably welcomed and warmly received here in
Boone, NC - home of the Booty Band. Since the creation of this seven piece ensemble in the summer of 2002, Yo Mama's
Big Fat Booty Band has done well attracting swarms of dancing masses to her many sold out shows.
The band is comprised of musicians hailing from all over the U.S. "The Reverend" Al Al Ingram (2nd in from right in
above photo), originally from NC, plays the bass to move your waist. Grady "The White Baby" Gilbert (3rd in from left),
from Mississippi, holds down the rhythm/lead guitar. John-Paul "The Stall" Miller (middle), a Florida beach freak, keeps
the other half of the guitar in check. Russell "The Love Muscle" Harper (2nd in from left), also a North Carolina native,
plays kit. Joshua "Bidness as Usual" Michael Phillips (3rd in from right), a young, immature man from Charleston, SC
and originally from New York, lays down percussion, guitar, sometimes bass, and in bed almost every night. Gregbob "Rescue
in the Night" Hollowell (far left), CT born - MI raised, plays saxophone, but only when he's not busy conducting and attending
his many very important meetings and overseeing his very important documents. Rudy "Rude Boy" Garceau (far right) still
has sand in his dreadlocks from his home. He plays trombone. Each musician also adds vocals to the mix.
The booty players all keep their primary instruments close by,
but often trade axes during any given performance. Some of the boys have had the pleasure to have played with
bands such as P-Funk, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Snakeoil Medicine Show, The Hallelujah Singers, Fantuzzi, Sideon, Natural
Healing Tribe, Out of Order, Simple, Bums Lie, Spacebus, Legion, and The Horse You Rode in On Quartet.
Back in '03, the Booty Band played after hours parties for George
Clinton and the P-Funk Allstars and The Wailers Band. These shows proved very successful, allowing the booty players
to funk it up with some of their childhood superheroes, including original Parliament Funkadelic guitar virtuoso Gary Shider
and Earl, the guitarist from The Wailers Band.
With originals which could be categorized into genres like funk,
reggae, hip hop, blues, traditional ska, jazz, and "straight, ghetto-assed, rump shaking shit" the Booty Band has the ability
to enthrall any type of crowd they're presented to on tour. While their original material is their main focus, sometimes
Yo Mama lets these gifted misfits play covers by Galactic, P-Funk, Miles Davis, Jameroquoi, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Herbie
Hancock, Simple, etc. Fans of all shapes, sizes, and shades mingle regularly at shows. Some speculate that this
is a result of the band's ability to provide a dynamic range of entertainment that attracts diverse audiences. Yo Mama's
Big Fat Booty Band actively encourages listeners to strive for the prosperity of our global community, and to shake their
asses while purchasing products sold by the venues they play as well as official YMBFBB merchandise.
