Interview with Jim Hickey, bass player for Riff-Raff

jim.jpg

How long have you been playing?

I have been playing Bass for 21 years now.  I started playing percussions and
singing when I was about 5...Getting old!

What instruments do you play?

I am a Bass Guitarist and Vocalist.  I can play a little 6 string guitar and can
get around a percussion rig ok but the Bass chair is where I'm happy.

What was your first album?

Jackson 5 - the one with Rockin' Robin on it.

What was your first concert?

I saw the Charlie Daniels Band in 1978 and John Denver later that year with my
parents...Then I saw David Lee Roth led Van Halen in 1982 with some High School
friends and it changed my life.

Who is your favorite band?

Riff Raff ;^)  Seriously though, I have U2 and/or Stevie Wonder in my CD player
at this moment.

Who is your favorite local band?

Riff Raff ;^) I really don't get out much!

What band do you dislike the most?

I'm sick of Linkin Park (However you spell it...)

What should a crowd expect from a Riff Raff show?

A GREAT LOOKING AND SOUNDING PRODUCTION! A suprising mix of songs, great
interaction between the crowd and the band too...were having a great time up there
and it shows.

Do you have any pre-show rituals?

I was quite the Jock in High School and College so I stretch and try to get a
couple minutes to review the songs in my head...de-stress.

Do you have any weird fan stories?

 um....yes!

What is your take on the local music scene?

Can I answer that some other time?  When I think it stinks, it turns great,
then ok, then stink, then stinks some more, then ok, then great, then amazing, then
ok, then...

Is there anything you would like to see change?

I would like more clubs to get into a true "Live Venue" atmosphere with proper
stage space and set-up for entertainment.

What is the best venue you played?

Prefice The last 6 months:
The best sounding club I have played is Honey Bears in Shelby.  The best venue as
far as space and size is Dino's Uptown in Gastonia

What is the worst venue you played?

No gig is a bad gig!!!

Is there anything else you would like to say?

This is very cool!  Please come check out Riff-Raff when you get the chance.
