Interview with Greg Thompson, guitar player for Euphorium

greg.jpg

How long have you been playing?

serious about 7 years

What instruments do you play?

Anything with strings

What was your first album?

Honestly, Michael Jackson's Thriller

What was your first concert?

Colonel Bruce Hampton and The Aquarium Rescue Unit

Who is your favorite band?

No absolute favorite, I listen to way too many styles to pick one. I could give one from each catagory but that would be overkill.

Who is your favorite local band?

Tie - Omega Tribe and Monsters of Japan

What band do you dislike the most?

Right now Velvet Revolver. Slash sounds great but it all sounds forced to me.

What should a crowd expect from a Euphorium show?

High energy, lots of laughs and melodic speed metal played with a lot of passion.

Do you have any pre-show rituals?

I have this thing I do with my pic, that involves a female party and that's all I have to say about that.

Do you have any weird fan stories?

We get flashed alot. Which is not bad, and I wouldn't consider that weird. But on more than one occassion we've been asked by lady audience members if they can get on stage and sing with us. We always oblige and try to give them what they want but it seems that everytime this happens a fight breaks out in the crowd or more clothing is removed so I do consider this a weird trend that we are encountering being that it has happened on a few occasions

What is your take on the local music scene?

Over all there seems to be a good amount of talent out there. The other bands we have encountered have all been supportive of us and been really hard working self promoting acts.

Is there anything you would like to see change?

Some acts tend to hype themselves like they are the hardest hitting act going and then when you see them they are usually some of the lamest. I guess I would like more bands to promote their shows and just let the proof be in the pudding.

What is the best venue you played?

I couldn't say what the best venue is. I personally have liked The Downtown in Morristown, Ireson's Pub in Bristol and Woodstone bar and grill in Kingsport. We played The Velvet Underground in Atlanta a while back and it was a solid venue.

What is the worst venue you played?

Shaker's in Johnson City

Is there anything else you would like to say?

Yeah, to all that do this crazy thing, keep on rockin'. Alot of good times to come when you keep it real and from the hip.
