Band Name: Shu
Name: Tim White
Who is Tim White?
Born in Shelby, N.C. 1972. Lived in Lincolnton, N.C. most of my life. Love the small town atmosphere
but miss the big city chain restaurants. (A.K.A. Hooters)Every town needs one of those!
How Long Have You Been Playing?
I have been playing concert percussion instrucments since 7th grade through marching band in
high school (1990). Been playing the drum set since high school, so it has been about 15 years with the drum set.
What Instruments Do You Play?
Percussion all the way around. But lack the skills of keyboard instruments.
What Was Your First Album?
Cinderella-Long Cold Winter. I found the tape under my school desk and was immediately introduced
to what people call "GlamRock" or 80's Hairbands. And not to mention Tom K. is one of the most talented musicians on earth.
More so than most know. I still listen to that album today. I know it by heart!
What Was Your First Concert?
Motley Crue-Dr. Feelgood Tour. You know the one, the t-shirt said...The loudest motherf%%king,
a%%kicking tour on earth... or something like that. ha ha. Great band, great concert and great talent. The only regret I would
have if I was them is the lost album Motley-Motley with the new singer at that time. Great album, great singer and a lost
treasure. The best song on the album...Uncle Jack. As a whole the chorus parts lack in definition in most songs but a good,
solid album with kicking Tommy-boy drums!
Who Is Your Favorite Band?
Guns-n-Roses (old) and Monster Magnet (new).
Who Is Your Favorite Local Band?
I repsect each and everyone of them, so I will not state one over the other. This is a hard
business to be in and I do not want to be part of any negativety towards any band. I love all of them and repect what they
do in their own way.
What Band Do You Dislike The Most?
Sticking to my "This is a hard business to be in and I do not want to be part of any negativety
towards any band."...But if I were to break my rule-Beck.
What Should A Crowd Expect From A Shu Show?
A Shüshow? Standing on yout feet, bobbing your head to the beat, tapping your foot or rocking
in general. Shü plays half original songs and half cover tunes. We try to collect as manmy different ears as we can. We like
to be open to anything and have everyone like our show. Also, Shü feels like we really have a gem of a singer. One of the
best I have ran into, worked with and enjoy being around. A great singing talent still learning and growing.
What Do You Do To Get Ready For A Show?
Prepare my golfing cooler bag with crackers, water, drinks etc. for hydration and hunger during
the night. You never know where you go if there will be that stuff available or can trust what is there. ha ha. I like to
think I am prepared for a tornado. I have a backup snare head, screws, washers and screw drivers to boot. If I need it, I
probably have it. I try to be prepared for what I do not want to happen.
Do You Have Any Weird or Fascinating Fan Stories You Can Share?
Um... a few but I will hold it to these. Every venue always has the local drunk rocking in front
of the stage and sooner or later, stage diving into the stage monitors towards my bass drum. I love these people and have
no problem with them what so ever. Rock on my drunk friends. And one more... We were playing at one facility and a few ladies
decided to get "friendly" with our stage microphone stands. Everyone enjoyed that immensely!!! Please girls, come to each
and every show we have!
What Is Your Take On The Local Music Scene?
Up and down. You never know if a club will be packed or empty. What bands are alive or dead.
It is all part of the deal. But with websites like this one, I only have high hopes for the local music scene. Thanks to Ronnie
and his efforts for trying to keep the local music and local music listeners in harmony with each other. Thanks man!
Is There Anything You Would Like To See Change?
Yea, a big time music label paying closer attention to local music in small towns across America!
What Is The Best Venue You Played?
Tough...I love each and evry show we play. I love to play but always respond better to larger
crowds than smaller ones. "The Rock Garden" in Lincolnton rocks and "Boardwalk Billy's", Univ. area, in Charlotte rocks also.
Both with built-in crowds and top-notch management running the shows there. But thanks to all of the venues for supporting
local home-grown music.
What Is The Worst Venue You Played?
I will never be negative towards a venue that is willing to host local music. They derserve
praise, not a verbal beating! They take a chance with each and every band. They take the risk of am empty floor, not us. And
we as musicians always get our checks no matter if it was a good night or bad. Here is to all venues whom host local muisic!!!
Is There Anything Else You Would Like To Say, or Any Advice You Would Like To Give?
Thanks to all of the Shüstrings, our fans nickname, out there and the ones to come. Everyones
support is needed in the local music business. Again, it is a very, very, tough and dirty business. Please suppor your local
bands out there and come out to the shows! And thanks to Ronnie and
www.localmusicjunkie.com for keeping our dream alive and the torch lit!
